Phillip Island weekend 2009

May 15th, 16th & 17th was our annual Phillip Island Craft weekend. The usual debauchery, drinkies and dress ups took place. The theme for our Saturday night attire was the letter "P". Naturally, we (well, Rose) came up with the unique idea of wearing "post it"notes. Post it notes were stapled on pyjamas as well as on some op-shop treasures. Some were carfeully co-ordinated while others just stuck them anywhere ( and I mean anywhere!). There were post it earings, hair clips, necklaces, merkins and even more unmentionable, but quite decorative uses.

If you can take your eyes off Sharon for a minute, please note that I had "personalised" Helen post it notes stapled to me. Brenda was fortunate enough to be attending her first weekend at a time when Rose was in fine form - not since the infamous salami incident of 2003 have we enjoyed such witty repartee and gentile comedy from our Rose

Usually, what happens at Phillip Island stays at Phillip Island, however, this year I am allowing you all a very small glimpse into our girlie weekend - more, I don't think anyone would like to view!

And as for the craft, I can assure you that some work did take place. Brazillian waxes.... er embroidery, mosaic mirrors, folk art, jewellery making, patchwork, teddy bear making, paverpol statue work, knitted bead bags, cake decorating and more DID actually take place. I just forgot to take photos of it!

Movember - a little out of order!

Apologies for this being a tad out of order, but this is what happens when you leave it for 6 months to get your blog going.

Our Monday NQR group embraced Movember to do our bit for prostate cancer awareness. I could comment more, but I feel the photos speak for themselves!

Bushfire quilt working bees

The local girls got together with the Cranbourne Regional Uniting Church members to make quilts for victims of the Victorian Bushfires this summmer. We mainly concentrated on QAYG blocks - as per instructions in this blog: http://sewmanyquiltstoolittletime.blogspot.com

I took a few quilts to Adelaide to the Scquilters retreat - some of which I neglected to photograph. But here are more either donated, or made in the Devon Meadows Hall over a couple of weekends.

Pam made this from the book "One Fabric Quilts" and has donated it to the bushfire cause.

At this point in time we also have 5 quilts being finished and have handed out other fabrics to willing volunteers, so we have an on-going project. Before I ship the quilts up to JanMac I will take more photos and put them on this blog.

First week back 2009

Over the summer holidays, I issued a challenge to both groups to keep them out of mischief over Christmas - I didn't want anyone making headlines with any of their usual holiday past times.

Almost everyone took part, which was great - other projects are still WIPs!

The Tuesday night group was given a FQ of fugly fabric to make whatever they liked - here are the results:

I produced Edna the Emu - from a Homespun pattern - or should I say Dame Edna (note tiara)

Nola made a great foundation pieced cushion and then appliqued a fugly lizard

Kate made this mug bag - the trim was a wonderful effort and goes so well

Gail made a fugly mini rubbish bin for the sewing table with co-ordinated fugly buttons

Annie B made this slash and whack - she is the expert

Leonie added the same lizard as Nola to her machine quilted cushions

The NQR Quilters (Monday group) challenge was a paper bag challenge - some sadists in the group included pegs, baubles and various trims, sequins, beads etc of no use at all. Despite all this, the following excellent efforts were made in using up all the contents of the paper bag.
