Phillip Island weekend 2009

May 15th, 16th & 17th was our annual Phillip Island Craft weekend. The usual debauchery, drinkies and dress ups took place. The theme for our Saturday night attire was the letter "P". Naturally, we (well, Rose) came up with the unique idea of wearing "post it"notes. Post it notes were stapled on pyjamas as well as on some op-shop treasures. Some were carfeully co-ordinated while others just stuck them anywhere ( and I mean anywhere!). There were post it earings, hair clips, necklaces, merkins and even more unmentionable, but quite decorative uses.
Here we have Belinda, Diane, Maureen and Rose post-it-ing all over the place

Belinda and Diane get up close and personal - note Belinda's tasteful heart post it necklace - also just in case you don't believe the craft bit of the weekend note poor crafters still at work in the background - We started our partay early!

Sherry - can't explain this pose - but note tasteful placement of her post its on her "p for purple" vest

Here Sharon, myself (Helen) and weekend virgin Brenda get into the swing of things. If you can take your eyes off Sharon for a minute, please note that I had "personalised" Helen post it notes stapled to me. Brenda was fortunate enough to be attending her first weekend at a time when Rose was in fine form - not since the infamous salami incident of 2003 have we enjoyed such witty repartee and gentile comedy from our Rose

Here Maureen and Rose (aka Patsy and Edina) do their pouty camera pose - note Maureen's tasteful co-ordination of post it notes with hair colour

Here Rose, Sherry and Karen enjoy some jocularity - a tad too much jocularity in fact

And here we are in all our glory - back row L to R Helen, Sherry, Brenda, Karen, Sharon - front row Belinda, Diane, Maureen and Rose
Usually, what happens at Phillip Island stays at Phillip Island, however, this year I am allowing you all a very small glimpse into our girlie weekend - more, I don't think anyone would like to view!
And as for the craft, I can assure you that some work did take place. Brazillian waxes.... er embroidery, mosaic mirrors, folk art, jewellery making, patchwork, teddy bear making, paverpol statue work, knitted bead bags, cake decorating and more DID actually take place. I just forgot to take photos of it!
Until May 2010

PS Brown envelopes please or I show the rest of the photos

Movember - a little out of order!

Apologies for this being a tad out of order, but this is what happens when you leave it for 6 months to get your blog going.
Our Monday NQR group embraced Movember to do our bit for prostate cancer awareness. I could comment more, but I feel the photos speak for themselves!
A unique view of "70s porn star" Amber

Inge and Karen a distinguished pair if there ever was one.

A suitably sombre Susan

Marilyn and Pam in mo mode - Pam has obviously gone to a lot of trouble with her curled ends

Fran and Wendy redundant in their own splendour in the foreground and myself - looking suspisciously like a certain very nasty WW2 figure

Pauline looking her formal best, while Di lets the side down by behaving frivolously in the background

Maggy doing her bit, while Laurel also lets the side down with her jocularity

So, until Movember this year -when I do hope we can get a very serious looking group picture- but thanks to Amber for these great phone photos in the meantime!

Bushfire quilt working bees

The local girls got together with the Cranbourne Regional Uniting Church members to make quilts for victims of the Victorian Bushfires this summmer. We mainly concentrated on QAYG blocks - as per instructions in this blog: http://sewmanyquiltstoolittletime.blogspot.com
The Bushfire quilts effort is being run by many lovely Scquilters and others with JanMac running the show - see the blog:
for more details!
I took a few quilts to Adelaide to the Scquilters retreat - some of which I neglected to photograph. But here are more either donated, or made in the Devon Meadows Hall over a couple of weekends.
Pam made this from the book "One Fabric Quilts" and has donated it to the bushfire cause.

Pam also made this QAYG one during our working bees

My supplies

Rev Wendy, Kate, Leonie, Nola & Nola hard at work

Annie B doing some hand sewing

Completed rows of QAYG blocks

A stack of QAYG blocks

Annie L putting more blocks together

More blocks

Rows of blocks joined up for a QS quilt

Annie L's almost finished quilt made with Nola's blocks

A QAYG quiltfor a little girl - made by Tracey

Tracey's quilt

Another of Pam's QAYG quilts - I took this one to Adelaide

Laurel's quilt top in repro fabrics
At this point in time we also have 5 quilts being finished and have handed out other fabrics to willing volunteers, so we have an on-going project. Before I ship the quilts up to JanMac I will take more photos and put them on this blog.

First week back 2009

Over the summer holidays, I issued a challenge to both groups to keep them out of mischief over Christmas - I didn't want anyone making headlines with any of their usual holiday past times.

Almost everyone took part, which was great - other projects are still WIPs!

The Tuesday night group was given a FQ of fugly fabric to make whatever they liked - here are the results:

I produced Edna the Emu - from a Homespun pattern - or should I say Dame Edna (note tiara)

The fugly fabric is in her legs

Nola made a great foundation pieced cushion and then appliqued a fugly lizard

The whole cushion

Kate made this mug bag - the trim was a wonderful effort and goes so well

Gail made a fugly mini rubbish bin for the sewing table with co-ordinated fugly buttons

Annie B made this slash and whack - she is the expert

Leonie added the same lizard as Nola to her machine quilted cushions

Jenni made her usual great quilt - quilted on her machine

The NQR Quilters (Monday group) challenge was a paper bag challenge - some sadists in the group included pegs, baubles and various trims, sequins, beads etc of no use at all. Despite all this, the following excellent efforts were made in using up all the contents of the paper bag.

Di's beautiful UFO

Donna's pretty doll

Susan made all sorts of wonderful craft things - a mammoth effort

Peta's angel doll - a wondrous combination of everything!

Maggy's beautiful Gypsy girl

My (Helen's) bag - from a Homespun magazine pattern

The dodgy bits were used for internal phone holders etc to go inside the bag.

Laurel's beautiful bag front and back - note the peg closure mechanism

Amber's sausage dog with puppies

Mair - our lovely correspondence class member from North Wales - she made a useful, but very cute peg bag - front and back

Maggy's gypsy again, sitting quietly with Inge's clown

Wendy's lovely bear - as yet without a face, but note the earings from the middle bit of the pegs

Pam's UN dolls - Peace and Unity - VERY clever use of doiley for Peace's (or is it Unity's) hat

Karen's bag - note careful/clever placement of red bauble

A very successful challenge!
